Reading "In Search of Lost Time" was never a challenge for Jean-Jacques Vanier, no more than climbing Everest. Yet, when his drama teacher declared one day that "The finest of journeys is the inner journey, and its best agency is 'In Search of Lost Time'", that sentence echoed in his mind.
It would take him a few years for the idea to germinate of reading La Recherche, of diving back into his childhood through that of
Marcel Proust, and then drawing the audience into his own memories, his own playground.
And then finally trying to unravel that question: why, oh why, did Marcel go to bed early for a long time?
A question that Jean-Jacques Vanier sets out to answer in a droll tribute to Proust lovers and victims alike, to schoolteachers, bus drivers, our dear grannies, and the Jeu des Mille Francs.
