After Croire aux fauves, which explored the recovery of a woman facing the bite of a bear, Émilie Faucheux now tackles the scratches of childhood, within a household where violence is silenced.
We follow the narrator from the age of 3 to 27, her first name is never mentioned. She says "I" and seeks with passion, anger, freedom, and a great deal of self-mockery, to invent her own words to better express what she feels between her mother's shouts and her father's silences. The domestic abuse she suffers is invisible, and even when she tries to send out a few signals, no one seems to care. As she grows up, she finds refuge in mathematics and their implacable logic... Except that life cannot be reduced to a simple equation; when the past resurfaces, one must eventually confront it.
A tale of emancipation in both form and content, Tumeur ou tutu, with its singular language tinged with irony, feels like an euphoric explosion.
